As the 2018 Olympics come to a close in South Korea, one Olympian, American skier Gus Kenworthy, offered some inspiring words to his fellow athletes—as well as a less-than-inspiring message to Ivanka Trump, who arrived in Pyeongchang to lead the U.S. delegation to the closing ceremony today.
So proud of all these people! Everybody here has worked so hard to make it to the Olympics and have the opportunity to walk in the closing ceremony! Well… Everyone except Ivanka. Honestly, tf is she doing here?? pic.twitter.com/sfJKi0VTDb

Prior to Ivanka’s arrival, Trump tweeted his support for sending his daughter to represent the United States at the Olympic Games.
My daughter, Ivanka, just arrived in South Korea. We cannot have a better, or smarter, person representing our country.
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) February 23, 2018
“It’s been an amazing couple of days, and such an honor and privilege to be here with our allies in South Korea and celebrate all that we’ve accomplished as culture, a society, economically and, of course, in sport,” Ivanka said.
Ivanka’s presence at the Games is only the latest affront to a promise Trump made prior to taking office that his children would not have any government roles. Since then, of course, Ivanka has become an advisor to her father, while her husband, Jared Kushner – Trump’s son in law – is a senior advisor to the President.
The fact that these athletes have trained their entire lives for the moment to represent their country on the world’s biggest stage comes in direct contrast with Ivanka Trump, who ended up in South Korea as the result of nepotism—and only nepotism.
Trump may have claimed that ” we cannot have a better, or smarter, person representing our country.” Of course, we could have, but he chose to send his daughter instead.
