President Trump publicly indulged in a delusional fantasy earlier today when he speculated that if he had been at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School while the mass shooting was unfolding he would have rushed into the building to save the children even if he was unarmed.
Apparently, the 71-year-old draft dodger fancies himself some kind of Rambo who is capable of facing down a hail of gunfire from an AR-15 without so much as a quiver. In reality, it’s far more likely that Trump would have not only fled the scene but would have pushed kids to the ground in the rush to save himself.
He’s a man completely devoid of empathy, so even if he did somehow overcome his own craven nature it’s unlikely he would have bothered to go out of the way to save others. Trump only cares about Trump.
It’s worth noting that several police officers on the scene hesitated outside the school while the bullets were flying in a gross dereliction of their duty. Which is to say, even the men specifically trained to run into the school didn’t run into the school. In no world would Donald Trump have confronted the killer.

Now, White House Press Secretary and professional liar Sarah Huckabee Sanders has been forced to address her boss’s ridiculous statements. During today’s press briefing, CNN’s Jim Acosta asked if Trump thought he “could have saved the day” in a tone dripping with irony.
Huckabee Sanders backtracked on the issue and said that Trump really meant that he would have “stepped in” as a leader. She then went on to ramble for a bit before Acosta sarcastically asked if Trump has had firearm training. His line of questioning is the only reasonable way to confront claims as ridiculous as the one made by the president earlier today. It’s absurd and deserves to be treated as such.
Huckabee Sanders refused to give a straight answer, and once again tried to misrepresent what Trump said by claiming that the president just meant he would have taken a “courageous action,” whatever that means. Her lies are of course undone by the above video, in which Trump clearly said he would have run into the building even if he didn’t have a weapon.
