CNN host just exposed Trump for distorting Fox News quote in disgusting fashion

- Februari 25, 2018

Brian Stelter is CNN’s media watchdog, and his Sunday show, ‘Reliable Sources,’ is usually dedicated to exposing lies and biases in the news coverage of the week’s major stories.

In the Trump era, however, that mandate has meant devoting most of his time and energy to unravelling the web of tweets, misstatements, and out-and-out lies coming from the White House, and how those lies are laundered through the right wing media, most blatantly by Fox News.

This week, Stelter took direct aim and the president’s commentary following Saturday’s long-delayed release of the Democratic memo written to rebut and refute the partisan memo released by House Republicans in early February. The GOP memo, authored by Trump Lackey Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA) was designed to undermine the FBI’s investigation and special counsel Robert Mueller’s probe into possible Trump-Russia collusion.

Democrats and Trump’s own Department of Justice tried to prevent the original memo from being declassified and made public, but thank’s to an obscure procedural maneuver, Rep. Nunes engineered its release anyway through the House Intelligence Committee, which he chairs.

Democrats had no choice but to write their own memo to counter the allegations made in the Nunes memo, and after Trump initially blocked the Democratic document, Saturday it finally became public, but only after significant sections were redacted.

The president, as expected, immediately took to Twitter and tried to downplay the memo’s significance and discredit the Democrats who authored it.

There’s just one problem. In his hasty attempt to paint Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) as a ‘phony,’ he completely misrepresented his own evidence, and Stelter called him out on it Sunday.

“We’ve seen this over and over again recently,” Stelter opened his show this morning, “the president says one thing in his fantasy land, when the facts show otherwise.”

“This weekend he’s saying the Democratic memo that’s supposed to rebut the Republican memo,” he continues, “he says the memo is nothing, when in fact the memo made a lot of news.”

As Stelter cued up his video package, he accused the president of watching Fox as the news of the memo hit the media.

“You could tell because he was basically live tweeting Fox News,” he says.

He then played video of the Fox News host on duty when the Democratic memo was released, and proves that she was actually quoting Rep. Schiff saying that the Republican memo omitted key facts.  No on ever accused Rep. Schiff of omitting key facts, as the president’s tweet blatantly states.

“Even when Fox News told him the truth, even when Fox got it right,” Stelter points out, “President Trump got it wrong.”
