In the tumultuous aftermath of last week’s Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting, the NRA has been front and center as the organization continues to stump for the continued – even increased – presence of guns on school grounds.
With Americans nearly united in their opposition to the gun lobby group, businesses have wasted no time responding to public pressure and ending their corporate sponsorships with the organization. The NRA, incensed by the mass exodus of partners, issued a scathing and defiant statement in response.
“The loss of a discount will neither scare nor distract one single NRA member from our mission to stand and defend the individual freedoms that have always made America the greatest nation in the world.”
Unsurprisingly, there is no mention of the fact that their blind defense of uninhibited weaponry in the hands of any paying American has also made America the most dangerous nation in the world, with 11,000 deaths in 2016, accounting for 64% of all homicides.
Per The Hill, “The NRA has doubled down on its positions since the shooting. In an appearance at a major conservative conference this week, NRA CEO Wayne LaPierre said it was ‘ridiculous’ to use shooting events as a means to advocate gun control.”
Apparently, a mass shooting and gun control have nothing to do with one another, according to the man responsible for overseeing an organization whose sole interest is the sale of guns.

The glaring rebuke comes in response to a public campaign to target companies doing business with the gun lobby group. Americans are exasperated with the Republican Party’s glaring inaction in the face of such a maddening gun culture in the country, and see the NRA – the biggest and most powerful gun lobby group in the country – as the driving force behind it all.
It seems that the NRA’s days of tenuously hiding behind the Second Amendment while American children are murdered have finally come to an end. They may desperately issue defiant press releases, but their unchecked power is finally waning.
